I went on a “photo safari” this weekend, and we went around taking pictures in some of the metros. It was fun, the other people were nice, and the guy leading the safari was pretty good about talking to us about shutter speeds and iso and white balance for indoor lighting and mixed lighting. He’d also talked to the metro managers ahead of time and gotten permission for us, since they are going to look suspiciously at a group of people hanging around taking pictures of the trains!

At the time I didn’t feel like I learned that much from the guy leading the safari, yet I know that the experience overall definitely helped me learn better how to use ISO in low light situations, and it also gave me quite a bit of practice in capturing movement, using shutter speed to blur movement.

Deb~ I love the photo of the girl taking pictures, something about the synchronization of it. I learn a lot of lessons in retrospect, you know?

I love motion blur so I am partial to the second shot. One of my favorites is to try and shoot NYC street scenes with a motion blur.
You inspired me to go do some soon.

@ Sorrow – I know exactly what you mean! I was sort of disappointed with the safari in the sense of how much I learned, and then I realized after I got home how much I really did learn! Sometimes I think we expect instruction to come in a certain format, and we don’t recognize it when it is happening in a different way!
I like the pic of the girl taking pictures too. I am often amused when I step out of the action, so to speak, and see what others must see of us!
@ Rich – No surprise that you love motion blur! I’m glad you’re inspired to go out and get some shots. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Very nice photos. I am going to Peru tomorrow and although I will only be there a few days I am going to try to take lots of photos. We shall see . . .
