Abuse is abuse. Shocking children is abuse. That you aren't even interested in finding non-abusive treatments is disturbing. I call it how I see it. I think if you actually read my post you'll notice that I'm not oblivious to the corner you're put in, but you'll never convince me that abusing a child, or anyone else for that matter, is a good thing.

It is unfortunate that well intentioned people would offer comments on something that they know nothing about. One should only be able to determine if this type of treatment modality is appropriate if their child is close enough to death to take appropriate measures to save their life. i'm sure that none of you have had to face the prospect of losing a child to the life threatening behaviors that he or she displays. This school has saved the lives of countless number of children and adults over the past 36 years. All of you "activists" have no right to suggest that those of us with children with such dangerous afflictions should let our children die because you do not agree with the type of treatment.

I'd say you did the better job of reporting, since you're the reason I heard about it in the first place!

Thanks though. We all need each other. :)

Deb, thank you so much for taking this stand and doing a much better job at reporting than I have.

I have been livid about this and I can barely see straight after the last few days I've had. I'm just engulfed and I love you so much for taking up this cause and running with it.

I need you, we need you.

I love you. To pieces!

Oh, republicrat, democan, who can tell the difference? ;)

Seriously, it is clear that it is a personal issue for this politician. The parents who defend the place, well, they do feel that they have no other choice, no options, and JRC will actually take their child when no one else will. If JRC closes, we have to have other options for them. We have to get other options period, it is desperation that has kept this place open, I'm convinced. Desperation, marketing, and a lack of awareness.

And he's a DEMOCRAT. For shame. This is more along the lines of something the other side would advocate (Abu Gharaib and all that crap).

Oh, they definitely have some political protection.

Israel has the perfect ally: state Rep. Jeffrey Sanchez, whose nephew Brandon has been in Israel's care since age 12; Brandon, now 27, is one of Israel's most challenging cases, with a long record of extremely self-injurious behavior. This is the same Brandon who Israel once shocked more than 5,000 times, prompting him to make a new device that could deliver much more pain. Nevertheless, Brandon's parents credit Israel with saving their son's life, and his uncle has helped ensure that no bill banning aversives becomes law.

Pretty sad.

I still think this school receives some kind of protection, either by its backers or some other kind of political protection. Otherwise, this kind of stuff would be making headlines everywhere. The Vast Machine protects its own, always. The only way to break it is to shout loudly by doing exactly what you've suggested. How sad that there even needs to be an outcry against such obviously hideous torture disguised as treatment. Good job, Deb.
